I've been studying the book of Mark and noticed some key things. In Mark 4, it talks about when the disciples, who were with Jesus, were on a boat in the middle of the sea and ran into a storm and he was asleep. The disciples then proceeded to wake him up and he rebuked the storm and everything was calm. Then in Mark 6, Jesus feeds 5000 people with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes (still mind-blowing by the way).

In Mark 6 as well, Jesus was on land, when he spotted his disciples in the middle of the sea struggling because of another storm they encountered and he walks on water to go rescue them, before they could even scream for his help, he was already on his way to their rescue (cue the Lauren Daigle song here) —“I will send out an army to find you, in the middle of the darkest night, is true, I will rescue you!”
In Mark 7, this is where it gets interesting; Jesus is somehow with 4000 people who were in need of food. Jesus didn't want to send them away hungry because He was concerned that some might faint along the way, so He wanted to feed them. Then His disciple asked— where can we find enough bread to feed these people in the wilderness? And I'm on my bed screaming—really??!! He just fed 5000 people 3 chapters ago, He just walked on the sea to save you guys and you are still asking how He can feed 4000 people, really?
If I was there, I would have said— okay Jesus how do you want us to set this one up? Do you need me to bring you a loaf of bread or stone...because I know this is nothing to you, I have seen you do a lot already! These disciples are crazy! I thought to myself. Then the Holy Spirit corrects me saying you are also like the disciples, how many times have I come to your rescue and yet each time you find yourself in a storm, you worry if I'm going to deliver you or not? That humbled me.
When we are in the middle of something and God delivers us, and a few years later, maybe months or even days! We need His help again; we are so quick to forget how He rescued us before. We are like the disciples in Mark 6 fearing for their lives in the middle of the sea before they see Jesus walking on water, meanwhile, 2 chapters before that He just spoke to the wind and the wind obeyed Him! And they even asked at that moment who is this that even the winds and waves obey Him!
Psalm 34:19 says— “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord, comes to the rescue each time.” This is a promise from God, that he will always come to our defense, but sometimes we don’t believe him because of the trust issues we have, which is as a result of how forgetful we have become, or maybe because we did something yesterday and worry if he would hold it against us.
But that is not how he operates. If you see your child in danger, what does your instinct tell you to do immediately? Is it not to rescue them? Do you start thinking about how that child was disobedient to you the other day, or do you just reach out and grab them immediately, as Jesus did for Peter before he reprimanded him for doubting.
Let us be like Paul in Acts 27:25 who in the middle of a storm said— “I believe God and it will be just as He said” (because God had promised to deliver him). Could it be that he was so bold making that statement because he had experienced God's faithfulness a few chapters earlier in Acts 16? (The story of Paul and Silas) which then gave him the confidence to speak again in 2 Corinthians 1:10 saying, —“And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us.” We have to know and trust in this saying that, God is faithful, and he never fails. So let us hold fast to our profession of faith without wavering, because he who has promised is faithful.
